Bjarte chooses the other pære

Despite the obvious set-up and implication of what the task might be, Bjarte voices his suspicion that the task will have a twist to it. He therefore chooses the pear, instead of the bulb, and is the only contestant to do so.

After reading the task brief, Bjarte runs out of the lab and returns with a large bottle of lighter fluid and a box of matches. He places the pear in the lamp as though it were a bulb, and then douses it in lighter fluid, intending to set it aflame. However, the pear refuses to burn, even after a second application of lighter fluid.

Bjarte takes several large bites out of the lighter fluid-doused pear (which visibly disgusts Olli) and then pours more lighter fluid into the depression he has created. After striking a few more matches, the pear (or, more likely, the pile of discarded matches inside of the pear) finally catches fire, and Bjarte declares the task complete.

Unsurprisingly, Bjarte earns last place, as he had taken several minutes to complete the task.
