Pete teaches the Taskmaster how to survive in ‘New York’

Having read the task brief, Pete notes that the Taskmaster is reasonably good at life, but that he’s going to teach him how to survive in Pete’s hometown, which he claims is New York City.

In a very rural setting, Pete is skateboarding across a road when he is approached by Tom Cashman, who demands he hand over his skateboard. Pete simply hits Tom with the skateboard and then walks away, claiming that he had escaped using street smarts.

Pete continues by demonstrating the importance of collecting evidence when attacked. When Tom Cashman approaches him and demands jewellery, Pete pulls out a camera and starts taking photos of him. When Tom then pleads for Pete to delete the photos, Pete agrees in exchange for a promise that he’ll quit crime. They men then shake hands on the deal.

Next, Pete demonstrates the need to “skedaddle” when outnumbered. As Tom tries to steal his iPad, Pete distracts him and then calls for a getaway car. The car initially appears as a radio-controlled toy car, but then the video cuts to the interior of an actual car, where Pete is playing the driver, wearing a wig and hat. First Pete calls second Pete hot, and they escape together.

In the studio, when Tom Gleeson points out that Pete’s ‘New York’ had looked very much like his farm, Pete attempts to claim that it was filmed in upstate New York. When Tom then points out the presence of the ute and akubra hat, and implies that Pete had rescued himself in a ute he couldn’t actually drive, Pete says that it all sounds like a conversation that should be taking place off-air. Tom concludes that Pete had taught him how to survive a city by acting rural, and that all you need to do is to be racist.

Pete earns 1 point for his video.
