Mel scores low on both litres and metres

Mel collects items to cushion the bucket’s fall, including a fishing net, some buoys, some life jackets, and some foam sheets. When Tom Cashman asks her if she thinks the bucket will land upright, Mel says yes. She tests her improvised crash mat by dropping a pot plant onto it, and remains confident in her plan.

Mel decides to drop the bucket onto the pile she has created while standing on a chair, stating that she aims to prioritise “max litres”, rather than “max metres”. However, when she drops the bucket, the uneven surface of the pile causes it to topple over and spill most of the coffee.

In the studio, when Tom Gleeson notes that Mel had used the phrase “max litres instead of max metres” mid-sentence, and it had sounded like a rap, Mel argues that must be worth 5 points.

Mel guesses that there was probably about 700ml of coffee left in the bucket, and Tom is able to confirm that this was close — the real amount remaining was 730ml. When multiplied by the height of 0.37 metres from which the bucket was dropped, this works out to 0.27 litre-metres, which earns Mel 2 points.

Attempt Notes

Rhys' final result is miscalculated, since 0.016 litres multiplied by 5.1 metres is actually 0.0864 metre-litres. Rhys should therefore have earned 2 points, and Mel should have earned 3 points.
