The Court Theatre

The Court Theatre ('Hofteatret') is located at Christiansborg Riding ground in Copenhagen, Denmark, right behind the Danish Parliament.

It opened in 1767 as the King's theatre, having been converted from an armoury to a neoclassical theatre space with pillar-supported balconies.

In the early 1840s, King Christian VIII arranged for the theatre to be renovated, transforming it to a Biedermeier interior of red velvet and lodges.

A large theatre fire in Vienna in 1881 resulted in the closure of all wooden theatres in Europe, including the Court Theatre. The following year, all furnishings were sold and the theatre became a space for furniture storage, until the Theatre Museum took up residence there in 1922.

The theatre and museum have both been closed and under renovation since 2021.

The theatre was used for the filming of the studio segments of the first four seasons of Stormester.
