Lloyd listens to some fruit
Before reading the task brief, Lloyd shares that he used to have a girlfriend that called him Mr Potato Head. After reading the task brief, Lloyd decides to show off his hearing.
Lloyd fetches a banana, a strawberry, an apple, a bag of crisps, a mandarin, and a blueberry. He then lies on the floor, using his headband as a blindfold, and indicates an area on the floor nearby where he would like Tom Cashman to drop the items, intending to identify them by the sound they make as they hit the floor.
Tom first drops the apple, which Lloyd correctly identifies. Lloyd then also correctly identified the bag of crisps as they hit the floor.
Next, Tom drops the mandarin, but Lloyd mistakenly identifies it as definitely being the banana. When Tom then drops the banana, Lloyd questions if Tom is repeating items.
Lloyd tells Tom to go ahead and drop the strawberry, so he can leave. When Tom then drops the strawberry, Lloyd isn’t sure whether it was actually the strawberry or the mandarin, and eventually opts for the incorrect choice.
In the studio, Tom Cashman suggests that Lloyd’s attempt was less a demonstration of his hearing and more what it might be like to be kidnapped by Con the Fruiterer (a fictional character created by the Australian actor and comedian Mark Mitchell).
Lloyd is clearly annoyed with himself that he got the mandarin wrong, and Tom Gleeson points out to him that it had clearly rolled towards him, which bananas can’t do. Tom states that usually, if you lose one sense, the others are supposed to become stronger to compensate, but acknowledges that this clearly wasn’t true in his case.
Tom Cashman reveals that Lloyd correctly identified four of his six items, giving him a 66.67% success rate. Lloyd therefore comes third and earns 3 points.
