Erik is inspired by a bird

After reading the task brief, Erik hears a particularly loud bird calling nearby, and tells Olli that the bird is telling him to be inspired by its presence. Erik is mocked for this in the studio by Atle, who likens him to Durek Verrett, a self-proclaimed shaman who had recently married a member of the Norwegian royal family.

Erik initially comes up with a pulley system, using a long rope to pull himself in a wagon. For some reason, however, he decides to complicate things, as instead of pulling himself the entire way, Erik creates a sort of zipline running from the garage to the wagon, the distance of which does not even count towards his 60 metres.

Presumably, Erik was counting on the zip line creating some momentum for his wagon, but as his zipline fails him midway through, it was an unnecessary addition to his race. The creation of the zipline also means that Erik is no longer pulling himself towards the finish line with the rope; rather, he is free-driving the wagon, counting on gravity to propel him towards the finish line.

He manages to steer the wagon to the caravan, at which point it overturns, dumping him to the ground. Thankfully, he lands close to another rope he has set up, so he grabs it and pulls himself across the nearby finish line on his belly.

In the studio, Olli reveals that Erik had actually only travelled 52 metres, instead of the required 60. Erik is therefore disqualified.
