Annika uses the string

Annika uses a few layers of string to move one ball at a time.

She eventually realises she can use the entire spool of string to transfer a few balls at a time without worrying about moving them across the ice.

She happens to herd the ball that doubles her score, doubling the 21 balls she moves, to give her a final score of 42. She therefore earns second place.
