Mahamad uses the string as a buffer
Mahamad uses the string to pull out a portion of the ping pong balls, and they immediately scatter across the ice rink.
He then unspools the string into the pen and pushes the entire pen towards the goal pen. While not stated, his logic seems to be that the ping pong balls are being moved by the string, which itself is being moved by the pen.
However, he has difficulty getting the ping pong balls into the finishing pen once he's moved everything over, until he remembers he can use his little finger to push them inside.
Mahamad herds 17 balls and earns fourth place.
