Eva and Sofie have a communication breakdown

Soon after reading the task brief, Sofie calls out to her team-mate via the walkie-talkie, and Eva then finds her own handset hidden in the fireplace.

Sofie tells Eva that she suspects that everything they need to solve the task is split between the two of them, in their separate rooms. She shares that she has a code written “in Icelandic or Faroese”, and an envelope that cannot be opened until someone looks like Charlie Chaplin. Eva looks around her room and quickly finds and dons the Charlie Chaplin hat and moustache.

Sofie then opens the envelope and quickly realises that the same picture exists within Eva’s room, so tells her to search behind it. Eva finds the vowel transposition code key, and reads it out to Sofie (including telling her about every arrow between the letters).

Sofie recognises that the code key is meant to be used on her coded message, but asks Eva what else is in her room, and Eva shares that she has a Faroese-Danish dictionary.

The pair then hit a hurdle, as Eva struggles to navigate the dictionary, and is unable to find the first word that Sofie feeds her (‘hvad’), even with Mark’s help (it turns out she is looking for the wrong word, ‘hvedj’). Eva even ignores the walkie-talkie for a while, while continuing to attempt to look up the word, which aggravates Sofie.

Eventually, the two decide to move on to the next word in the riddle, ‘ir’, which Eva mishears as ‘iv’. Sofie spells the word down the walkie-talkie, saying “‘I’ like ‘Ivan’, ‘R’ like ‘røvhul’ [asshole]”, prompting Eva to stop and chide Sofie to watch her tone.

Eva says she is unable to find the word in the dictionary, and wonders if Sofie first needs to use the vowel transposition code key on her text, before reading out the words for her to look up in the dictionary. Sofie then transposes the vowels as indicated, and is delighted to discover that the riddle is now fully present, and legible in Danish.

Eva momentarily panics, as she had been eating a piece of fruit while waiting for Sofie to finish decoding her text. Eva then claims that she can probably figure out the riddle. While she is thinking, Mark prompts her by asking what is greater than the Stormester. Eva happily replies that nothing is, and that Mark is also “a zero”. She shares the correct answer with Sofie via her walkie-talkie, who gleefully cries out that the answer was obvious, as Mark is indeed “nothing”.

In the studio, Sofie admits that the edit had been somewhat kind to them, as Sofie had initially guessed “poisonous spider”, to which Mark had taken some offence. Linda points out that it’s odd that Mark would be more upset at being called a poisonous spider than being called ‘nothing’, noting that “one is true, while the other is unrealistic”, because Mark simply cannot be a spider.

Eva jokingly exaggerates the tension that had existed between the team-mates during the task, claiming that Sofie’s tone had become so angry that Eva had become scared. Sofie counters that Eva was very bad at using the walkie-talkie, and Eva then admits that she had often forgotten to hold the button down while speaking.

Eva and Sofie solve the riddle in 37 minutes and 33 seconds, which is slower than the other team, so they earn 2 points each.
