The task brief is laid on the table in the study, beneath a single red rose. The briefs for the task are as follows:
To Emma, Takashi, and Tommy:
Make these singles have chemistry on their first date.
They are both wearing earpieces.
They will only say or do whatever you tell them to do.
At least one person from your team must be in the study, and one must be outside.
If you are in the study, you’ll be in control of her.
If you are outside, you will be in control of him.
Best chemistry wins.
Your singles will arrive in 10 minutes for their 20-minute date.

To Dave and Lisa:

They are both wearing earpieces.
They will only say or do whatever you tell them to do.

Task notes
- Also on the table, positioned either side of the task brief, there are framed photos of the two real life singles (Gareth and Chloe) whom the contestants will be instructing during their date (in the style of Cyrano de Bergerac), as well as two walkie-talkies.
- The couple’s dates both take place in the lab, where a small round table and two chairs have been set up to represent a restaurant.
- Both singles are wearing earpieces, so that the contestants can talk to them.
- In their respective locations in the study or outside the house, the contestants are provided with a monitor so they can see the video feed from the lab, and a pair of headphones so that they can hear what is being said.
- For the first date, Gareth turns up wearing a novelty baseball cap with a fish apparently passing through it, from back to front, and carrying an electric guitar, while Chloe turns up wearing a red cape.
- For the second date, Chloe turns up wearing a black leather jacket, while Gareth turns up wearing a dull blue jumper with thin beige stripes.
