Eero the rambler

Eero immediately launches into an improvised story about a cat named Jaanin Bumbersdorf, who went into a store and saw many large objects on the shelves. Eero then proceeds to just list random objects as he thinks of them – many of which would not be sold in stores at all, never mind in the same store, such as “Hollola” (a Finnish municipality) and “kanttu” (an old and frail animal/person).

The remaining footage of Eero’s attempt consists of snippets of dialogue where he is saying something funny and/or strange, with little to no indication as to what (if any) logical thought process he had followed to arrive at that point in his monologue. These snippets include: Eero declaring that “the President is shit, so hit him with a baton”; talking about how he once went to use the bathroom, and when a turd came out, he made it into a cake (this is a pun; ‘torttu’ means ‘tart’, but is also a slang for ‘turd’); showering at his grandparents’ house and being plied with candy and doughnuts; the fact that he is not wearing underwear (before immediately admitting that he actually is); and his belief that this “monster task” will never actually end.

Eero eventually leaves the lab and heads outside, still rambling about random things, such as demanding to be bestowed the powers of a postman so he can start delivering mail. Eero starts to have an existential crisis as he paces on the porch outside, acknowledging that “this whole thing” (presumably his task attempt) is starting to deteriorate. He quickly picks up on that topic, stating that deterioration in humans and animals is a fascinating concept, but that he doesn’t particularly want to get into it. He snaps himself away from a potentially dark line of conversation by walking to the nearby grill and opening it, loudly declaring that it is open. This is where his initial attempt footage ends.

In the studio, Jaakko comments on Eero’s brief flirtation with aggression during his attempt (he called Pilvi a “crazy referee” while complaining about the “monster task”). Eero admits that he often has trouble falling asleep, and that everything he said was the same monologue that plays in his head whenever he tries. Jaakko suggests that Pamela go to Eero’s house every evening to help him, as her chattering during her attempt had been boring enough to send him to sleep.

After the other contestants’ attempts have been shared, more footage of Eero’s is shown, and it is revealed that Eero had been talking for 48 minutes straight, and was still pacing around on the porch, now rambling about what would be the best things to grow, if one owned three fields. At this point, the camera operator is seen backing away from Eero, and Pilvi enters the mansion, closing the door behind her. Eero interrupts his rambling, musing that not even the crew wants to listen to him anymore, but that he understands, and he wishes everyone a pleasant coffee break. After briefly complaining that “anyone can be elected into the government”, Eero goes for a walk away from the mansion, and begins talking to himself about the rules of football.

Eero’s total time is not disclosed (Pilvi just says it was “endless”), but he earns joint first place.
