Anne gives up on the task
After reading the task brief, Anne picks up the ‘This’ jar and a quite a few of the balls spill out of the hole in the bottom. Placing the jar back down, she notes “Don’t want to do that again”.
Anne holds the ‘That’ jar below the edge of the table, and then slides the ‘This’ jar over to the edge, allowing the balls to fall from the bottom. Although some of the balls do land inside the ‘That’ jar, many more fall to the floor.
Anne then decides to use the vacuum cleaner to pick up one of the spilled balls and drop it into the jar on the table. Unfortunately, the jar she has chosen is actually the ‘This’ jar, where the ball originally came from, while the ‘That’ jar is on the floor. She also manages to spill more balls from the bottom of the ‘This’ jar in the process, by lifting the jar again.
Switching tack, Anne slowly uses the tongs to pick up some of the balls, while complaining that she really doesn’t want to pick them all up. When Tom asks her if she’s not satisfied with the implements, she tells him that the implements are great.
She then tries again to pour some balls from the ‘This’ jar into the ‘That’ jar, and spills yet more balls onto the floor. It is at this point that she states “I’m just going to admit defeat”, and leaves the room.
Anne quits the task after 13 minutes and 19 seconds. Tom Gleeson rules that giving up on the task sets a bad example, so he awards Anne minus 1 point.
