Tobias changes his phrase
Tobias is not a fan of his assigned phrase (‘Okay, just one more thing’), and decides to change it. Initially, this change is minor, as he says “Just one more question” instead.
Tobias burns through a lot of extra questions by asking Mark unnecessary follow-up questions. For example, he asks Mark if the shoe is something he would wear, then follows up by asking if Mark would wear it to a party, then follows up again by asking if Mark would wear the shoe if no-one actually saw him wearing it.
He then starts asking about individual pairs of shoes without having narrowed down a target area of the room. During these rapid-fire questions, Tobias changes his response phrase again, transforming it into the question “Can I ask another question?”, which he starts saying before each of his actual questions. He continues his approach of asking Mark about individual pairs of shoes, only now – thanks to his new phrase – he is burning two questions every time.
Eventually, Tobias manages to pick up the correct pair of shoes, but burns two more questions asking about the incorrect shoe in the pair.
In the studio, Tobias seems to imply that he had thrown the task on purpose by asking as many questions as possible (including “Have I asked about this pair of shoes before?”), before admitting that his task performance was far from the dumbest thing he’s ever done.
Mark reveals that Tobias had asked 34 questions related to the shoes, plus an additional 29 questions through his phrase “Can I ask another question?”. As such, Tobias finds the correct shoe after 63 questions, and earns fourth place.
