Josh conserves characters

Josh begins by sending Tom Cashman the text “Outside?” before running towards the house.

When he receives the unhelpful response of “I’m having a shower”, he decides that it’s probably not worth sending too many texts if he’s just going to receive junk back.

Josh sends the text “Where” and receives the reply “in the kitchen”. Presumably reasoning that there’s no response Tom can give to a non-question, Josh responds with the single character “K”, and then heads off to search the house and its grounds.

He eventually receives the response “I understood your question” from Tom, who is clearly playing dumb so that he can respond and force Josh to stop travelling. In response, Josh sends Tom a completely blank text message (presumably just a single space) so that he can keep searching.

Josh does consider that Tom might be somewhere back at the dock where he’d started, but when he goes back there he is unable to find him.

Continuing his strategy of sending Tom texts which aren’t easy to respond to and use up as few characters as possible, Josh decides to start sending him photos via MMS, starting out with a picture of the cameraman.

Josh eventually sends Tom a photo of the dock, and receives the actually helpful response “That’s not where I am”. Josh examines the boat and, upon finding Tom underneath it. tells him that they don’t pay him enough.

In studio, Tom Gleeson provokes Josh by bringing up the old adage that a picture is “worth a thousand words”, but Josh retorts by pointing out that the expression isn’t “an MMS is worth 10,000 characters”.

When it comes to awarding points, Tom Gleeson admits that he’d just been winding Josh up, and it is confirmed that Josh had only been judged to have used 21 characters, which earns him 4 points.
