Lloyd halves the pool of suspects with each question

Lloyd begins by determining which team of ducks is lying. He asks duck number 5 (a lying, blue duck) if his own name is Lloyd Langford, and receives two quacks in response (no), which tells him that the blue team are the liars.

He then chooses questions with the aim of eliminating as many ducks as possible at a time, starting by asking duck number 6 (a truth-telling, red duck) if the goose is one of the red ducks. Because he receives a single quack in response (yes), he knows that the goose is, in fact, one of the red ducks.

To narrow the pool down from five potential suspects to two or three, he then asks duck number 7 (a lying, blue duck) if the goose is one of the ducks with a number divisible by four. When he receives two quacks in response (no), he knows that the goose is either duck number 4 or duck number 8. He then asks duck number 8 if it is the goose, and receives a single quack in response (yes).

Lloyd successfully accuses duck number 8 of being the goose after using just four questions, and so earns 5 points.
