Martin’s House of Games prize

Martin announces that he has brought in one of his prizes from appearing on the show House of Games: a deck chair featuring Richard Osman’s face.

Greg is offended at having a rival gameshow brought up during the episode, and asks Martin if he ever goes into theatres and shouts out “Macbeth”. Martin attempts to suck up to Greg by acknowledging that he is risking a good prize in return for potentially winning a better prize, in the form of the Taskmaster New Year’s Treat trophy.

Alex notes at this point that there is a “slight small-print issue” with Martin’s prize, as the BBC prohibits game show contestants from giving their prizes away. However, Martin is one step ahead of Alex, and points out that he has gotten written permission from the BBC to give away his prizes, since he has used some of them to raise money for charity. Alex seems genuinely embarrassed to have been caught out by this, and Greg asks “Who would’ve thought that the king of the nerds would be out-nerded?”.

When awarding points, Greg states that he doesn’t want Richard Osman to think he’s “got beef with him”, but he is tempted to give Martin’s prize just 1 point. After stating that “You can’t bring Osman to this cathedral”, he does that, before politely wishing Richard “Good luck with the books and stuff”.
