Pete attempts to reconnect with a tax-paying friend

Pete is a Gemini, and his horoscope reads as follows:

Tomorrow is a day to focus on your communication skills and don’t be afraid to speak your mind. This is also a good time to connect with friends and loved ones.

When Tom Cashman asks if any of that resonates with him, Pete says there are maybe times when he wouldn’t completely speak his mind, to spare other’s feelings. When Tom asks if he has an example, Pete instantly tells Tom that he doesn’t like his haircut.

Noting that his horoscope also said that it was a good time to reconnect with friends, Pete says that he hasn’t spoken with his friend, the fellow comedian (and season 4 contestant) Dave Hughes, aka ‘Hughesy’.

When Pete calls Dave and asks what he is doing, Dave responds that he’s “just paying some fucking tax”. Pete tells him that it’s about time, and Dave claims that he’s paying more tax than Google is.

When Pete then tells Dave that he’s actually calling to tell him just how much he means to him, Dave instantly asks him who’s podcast he’s on. When Pete then tells him he’s not on a podcast, Dave says “Feels like you’ve got a gun to your head. Do you?”.

Dave does go on to say that he appreciates the sentiment, no matter how it’s come about, and who’s content is being created. After Pete assures him that it’s not about content, and that is a sincere moment between two mates, Dave tells him that whatever he set out to achieve, he has achieved it.

As Pete ends the call, Dave asks him if he still has an appetite for bull’s penis, in reference to Pete’s appearance on the Australian version of, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2023.

In the studio, Tom Gleeson says he thinks they have learnt a lot about his relationship with Dave Hughes. When he asks Pete if he feels bad that Dave saw through his faux sincerity so quickly, Pete confirms that it was a bit disappointing, and says he had hoped that Dave would have realised what he was doing and gone along with.

Tom Cashman confirms that Pete’s phone call had lasted 7 minutes and 57 seconds, 42% of which consisted of Dave complaining about paying tax.

Tom Gleeson decides to award Pete 3 points, claiming that it’s because his attempt had resulted in Dave Hughes being referred to the ATO (Australian Taxation Office).
