Richardson uses water balloons

After a brief search of the shed, Richardson is suddenly struck with an idea, and he fills up two water balloons from the nearby garden hose. He explains that he has made two “just in case”. Naturally, one of the balloons then pops before he can even pick it up.

Richardson tosses his remaining balloon towards the sauna stones, but it bounces on the astroturf and then rolls along the driveway towards the fence. Richardson gives chase after the balloon, but it pops just as he reaches it.

On his next attempt, Richardson manages to get the balloon to pop right in front of the sauna stones, but none of the water splashes up onto them.

While filling another water balloon, Richardson explains his altered strategy to Antoine: he will place the balloon on top of the stones, and then quickly run behind the rope again. While never fully explored, it seems that Richardson may be operating under the assumption that if he is behind the rope while the stones are hissing – as opposed to at the moment they start hissing – then his attempt is valid.

Richardson runs up to the stones and spits a mouthful of water onto them, before dropping the balloon directly on top of them, and running back behind the rope.

In the studio, Louis requests that a still of the moment the sauna stones had hissed is displayed on the screen. The image has been augmented with helpful red arrows, pointing out Richardson’s location and the rope behind which he was supposed to be at that moment.

Unsurprisingly, Richardson is disqualified.
