Ernie and Bert catch up and then arrange some tetrominoes

As this is the first team task filmed, Mel and Concetta are very pleased to see one another, and ask Tom Cashman for a moment to allow them to catch up. Concetta also asks if he can get them a couple of mimosas. Tom turns his back on the women while they chat. Mel asks if Concetta if Tom is also mean to her, and she says yes, noting how annoying he is.

Once they’ve begin the task, the pair run off to look for the tetrominoes. Mel shouts that she sees one as she runs to the caravan, and Concetta drags one back from the bar, yelling to Mel that they are huge.

Concetta then finds the square tetromino in the lab, and Mel finds another one in the back of the ute. They also find another tetromino around the corner of the house, and then Mel goes to check the shed, where she finds the final one.

Now they have all the tetrominoes, Concetta announces that the task is really starting, and they need to be smart. However, Concetta says she’d just wanted to hang out with her friends today. Mel then comments that she didn’t realise what a burden having four testicles would be.

After arranging the tetrominoes, Mel claims that they have a “Perfect square done”, but the last blue piece does not actually fit the gap. Concetta moans that they are so close to the solution, and are “smart funny women, with beautiful hair”. She then wonders out loud which tetrominoes they should move, and questions whether the yellow ones should be put together.

After asking for a time check and learning that they have been going 15 minutes and 51 seconds, Concetta says that they need to start again, but Mel is adamant that she’s not doing that.

When Concetta says that Tom will keep them there forever if they don’t solve it properly, Mel assures her they will not die there or still be doing the task on their 80th birthdays. Tom suggests to them that after 15 minutes they should be focusing on something else, rather than dying.

Standing back to look at the tetrominoes, Mel points out that it works perfectly until the last blue and yellow pieces, and wonders if they “can be better friends”. They then swap the two pieces, and Concetta shouts that she is so proud of Mel, as she struggles to insert the last yellow tetromino and complete the task.

In the studio, Tom Gleeson points out that the pair had hit just one small obstacle and then started talking about ending it all, and asks them if perhaps they’d overreacted.

Mel says that she loves Concetta, but that she was raised by her phone, and that they did not see eye-to-eye on how to solve the task.

Tom Gleeson says that he felt that Mel was in charge of being cross and whinging, while Concetta was in charge of being optimistic. Based on this analysis, he decides to nickname the team “Ernie and Bert”, after the Sesame Street characters. He then goes on to nickname the other team “The Muppets”, in keeping with the theme.

Concetta and Mel took 18 minutes and 5 seconds to complete the task, and earn 5 points each.
