Jacob systematically eliminates rooms
Jacob takes note of everything in the hallway that is electrical, and takes advantage of his longer limbs by turning the switch off and on while leaning out into the hallway to check whether the switch controls anything there.
He then takes stock of everything in the kitchen.
Presumably he rules out the kitchen before going into the study, where he meets Mark, and says that he has “a funny feeling” that the room is important to the task.
Jacob then divides the study into sections, trying to focus on what is on and off before and after each flick of the switch, but he quickly loses track.
Eventually, Jacob gives up, declaring that the switch is somehow connected to his self-esteem.
It is revealed in the studio that Jacob spends 43 minutes and 11 seconds not completing the task, and he is disqualified.
