Karen’s swan-themed horror movie

While reading the first task brief, Karen does not break eye-contact with Paul, but she does stumble over the word ‘inanimate’.

When she re-enters the lab holding a bird statue, she calmly asks Paul why he is wearing a sheet. After he attempts to insist that he is not wearing a sheet, in a spooky ghost voice, Karen says, “You know I’m an expert in this kind of stuff?” (presumably referring to her role in the TV show Wellington Paranormal).

Karen’s movie begins with her and Paul having a lovely picnic together. She picks up a knife and it initially looks as if she is going to stab Paul in the back, but she then just cuts him a piece of cake.

After some more time passes, Paul comments that it’s getting really late and shadowy, and suggests that maybe they should leave, but Karen insists that they stay a while longer and enjoy themselves.

The swan statue is then seen passing quickly behind them, before they see it themselves and both scream.

Paul is chased through the woods by the swan, which catches him and pecks his eyes out. Karen shoos the swan away and cries over Paul, screaming “Get away swan, get away!”

The title of the movie is revealed as “What Swans Do in the Shadows” (a reference to What We Do in the Shadows, the movie which started Karen’s acting career and led to her playing the same role in Wellington Paranormal).

In the studio, when Jeremy comments on the sexual chemistry between Karen and Paul, Karen denies it. When he asks if she’s kissed him yet (as she’d been seen kissing him in both of the previous episodes), she states that she has not yet kissed him during the episode. After Jeremy offers her the opportunity to do so, she declines on the basis that she has a “delightful partner” who is “getting a little bit cross”.

Jeremy enjoys Karen’s film and awards her 3 points.
