Sue experiences penny déjà vu
Just after Sue reads the first task brief, Alex asks her if she’s superstitious (with particular emphasis on the ‘su’ and ‘per’ syllables). Recognising his play on her name, Sue glares at Alex and says it’s too late in the day, before picking up the step-ladder and walking underneath it.
After reading the second task brief, Sue immediately decides to defer its completion and move on to the next one.
After reading the third task brief, Sue picks up the bag of salt, starts to walk away, pretends to trip, and allows the salt to fall all over the driveway.
After reading the fourth task brief, Sue closes one of the five umbrellas on the driveway, runs to the shed with it, and then opens it in there before returning back to the fortune trail with it. When Alex asks Sue if she has done what was asked of her, she re-reads the task brief and realises her mistake. After berating Alex, once he clarifies that there is in fact a separate umbrella in the shed (“Damn your syntactical vortex!”), Sue runs back to the shed and, after a bit of trouble, manages to close the umbrella. She also spots the lucky penny, which she takes back to the fortune trail with her, and places on the plate on the second plinth (apparently not spotting that it is double-headed).
After reading the final task brief, Sue comments on her feeling of lucky penny deja vu. After a few tosses of the regular coin provided on the plinth, she becomes convinced that there must be an easier way to get five heads in a row. Her creative solution is to ‘toss’ her own head five times, although Alex quickly reminds her that the task brief specifically states that the head tosses must involve a coin. Sue either does not hear him, or does not care at this point, and so she proceeds to do five push-ups on the driveway, while shaking her head in a weird manner.
In the studio, Greg tells Sue that she’s clearly lost her “goddamn mind”. Sue agrees, but attempts to justify her decision by claiming that she is well-travelled, and that a ‘standard coin flip’ could have a very different definition in other countries.
Sue completes the fortune trail in 6 minutes and 56 seconds, but Greg disqualifies her for not completing the coin flipping task correctly.
Sue is actually a step ahead of Greg at this point, stating that she’s wearing a jacket suitable for just this occasion. Calling back to Julian’s prize task submission, Sue then opens up her jacket to reveal the words “FUCK OFF” written in masking tape inside (which she’d had someone from the production team add for her, during a break in filming).
