Maria draws on her musical theatre experience

When introducing the footage of Maria’s attempt, David reminds the audience that Maria holds the Guldmasken (‘Golden Mask’) award for best female musical artist (The Guldmasken was a theatre award presented between 1988 and 2009, and Maria won it twice; David is specifically referencing when she won for her performance in Guys and Dolls in 1998).
It’s soon obvious why David has referenced Maria’s musical theatre past: while she can carry a tune, she clearly does not know Bäst i Test’s theme particularly well, so adds musical flourishes throughout, in an attempt to cover herself.
Maria’s lyrics (as translated) are as follows:
I am a woman,
Looking for love.
I’ve got four kids,
And a husband who’s a lot younger than myself.
Than myself!
But I’m yearning to be
A woman who just wants to be a man’s true love!
In the studio, Maria admits that she is ashamed of her performance, and apologises.
David credits Maria’s song as having five facts: that she is a woman; she has four kids; she has a younger husband; she’s looking for love; and she’s yearning to be a man’s true love.
Babben awards Maria third place.
