Mauri showcases his stamina

After trying to poke at the apple with a long stick he finds in the woods, Mauri runs to the shed in search of things that will help. He duct-tapes a long wooden dowel to the end of the stick, yelling a conversation with David while he does. The two men can barely hear each other, and constantly have to repeat what they are saying.

When he returns, Mauri thoughtfully stands in front of David to remove the apple, saying that he does not want David to be frightened by what he is doing. Mauri’s creation is barely long enough to reach the apple as he reaches over the line. Unfortunately, the stick breaks before it can touch the apple, and Mauri loses his tool within the circle.

In footage that does not make the edit of his attempt, Mauri is able to somehow get his stick close enough that he is able to retrieve it, and he then runs to the shed to source another stick and some more tape. However, as he starts to tape the third stick (a pond net) to his creation, he realises that he has grabbed electrical tape, instead of duct tape, so he makes another trip to the shed.

Mauri then repeatedly swings his extended stick over David’s head, but the net consistently misses the apple, either because Mauri is scared of hitting David with the sticks, or because the net is somehow generating lift with each swipe. However, after several attempts, he finally manages a successful one in his final minute, brushing the apple off of David’s head.

In the studio, Babben compliments Mauri’s “tremendous stamina”, which had been tested via three up-hill sprints to the shed during the task.

Mauri completes the task in 9 minutes and 8 seconds, and earns fourth place.
