Mauri focuses on the steps
Mauri first tries to just throw the ball from a standing position, somewhat relying on his long limbs to help cover the required distance. His throw actually manages to reach the bottom of the hoop’s rim, but as the angle was all wrong, the ball then falls back to the ground.
Mauri worries about trying again, as he believes that if the ball lands on the balcony and stays there, the task will be over.
He climbs the steps leading into the house for his next attempt, as it will give him a better angle (i.e. throwing straight upwards). David also notes that doing so brings Mauri half a metre closer to the basket.
Mauri tries throwing from various points on and around the stairs and, at some point, switches his throwing style from overhand to underhand.
David offers ‘helpful’ commentary throughout the process, such as suggesting that Mauri visualise scoring before attempting his next shot. Mauri, becoming increasingly frustrated, tells David to be quiet for two entire minutes -- a challenge that David almost immediately fails. In fact, Mauri’s frustration and challenge seem to actually spur David towards become more biting in his commentary, such as sarcastically lamenting that one of Mauri’s failed shots sent the basketball rolling down a nearby hill, and questioning whether Mauri possesses any self-confidence.
Amazingly, Mauri manages to score a basket in his final minute, without the basketball even touching the rim. An elated Mauri picks up David in celebration, and runs off with him into the nearby wooded area.
In the studio, Babben asks if David’s “babbling” is ever helpful during the tasks. Mauri replies that when he was just a viewer of the show, he had always believed that Babben was harsh to David, but once he became a contestant, he realised how “insufferable” David actually was.
Mauri scores in 14 minutes and 24 seconds, and earns last place.
