Virginie kills Santa Claus
Virginie’s five chosen ‘wonderful’ words are ‘amour’ (love), ‘espoir’ (hope), ‘magie’ (magic), ‘ciel’ (sky), and ‘étoile’ (star).
She chooses to write lyrics to the tune of O Holy Night. The translated lyrics to her song are as follows:
The winter sky like a carpet of hope
But devoid of stars, because Santa Claus died tonight.
His beautiful sleigh, stripped of its magic,
In a field, found crushed.
The reindeer cry, their great love lost.
Christmas! Christmas!
Rest in peace, Santa Claus.
Virginie’s video begins as would be expected from her five words: Virginie singing in a snow-covered forest. However, when the lyrics reveal that Santa has died, and his sleigh has crashed, the camera pulls back to reveal more of the forest – and the flaming remains of Santa’s sleigh just behind her.
Ruling that “the effort was there, but the result wasn’t”, Louis awards Virginie joint third place.
