Eva bakes a lamp

The footage of Eva’s attempt begins midway through her brainstorming process, wherein she wonders if she can make a lamp out of the bread dough.

She shapes a large chunk of dough into a base shape, and sends Mark into the kitchen with it to bake. As he does, Eva turns the dough bowl over and starts to cover it with butter, before placing raw dough on top of it, moulding it into a crude lampshade form.

While her lampshade bakes, Eva retrieves an actual lamp from elsewhere in the house and brings it into the lab, having removed its existing lampshade.

Eva then jams the lamp into the half-baked tray of bread dough, winding lengths of dough up around it towards the bulb, both for aesthetic and structural reasons. Finally, she balances the fully-baked bread dough lampshade on top of it, and – after taking some time to stabilise the construction – asks Mark to turn off the lights in the lab.

For some reason, Eva is surprised that the lamp actually works, and then leaves the lab feeling very pleased with her creation.

In the studio, Lasse delivers a questionable compliment to Eva’s lamp, stating that, were he to see it in a museum amongst other items “from the last 40 or 50 years”, he would not be able to single it out as not belonging to that collection. Still, he awards her first place.
