Task briefs

The initial task brief is either laid on the desk in the study, or is given to the contestants by Paul on the sofa. The second task brief is also laid on the desk in the study. The briefs for the task are as follows:

During the next task, you will hear a countdown from 40.

The vase will fall from the shelf.

With 29 seconds left, ping-pong balls will fall from the roof, and Paul will throw a tennis ball to you with 25 seconds left.

You will be asked to complete the maze on the blackboard, and to spell the word ‘task’ in semaphore.

The premier of New Zealand in 1874 was Sir Julius Vogel, and the second wire from the right will trigger the confetti.

You may not touch anything in this room until your time starts during the next task.

You must leave this room in eight minutes.

Your time starts now.

Stop the vase from breaking.

Avoid being hit by the ping-pong balls.

Answer Paul's trivia question.

Spell the word ‘task’ in semaphore.

Catch the ball when Paul throws it.

Complete the maze on the blackboard.

Cut the wire that triggers the confetti. You may only cut one wire.

The least mistakes wins.

Task notes

A vase has been set up on the top shelf of the leftmost bookcase at the back of the room with some kind of mechanism which causes it to fall at a specific point in time.
A large chalkboard has been set up between the desk and the sofa with a complicated maze drawn on it.
A cardboard box full of table tennis balls is mounted to the ceiling directly above the chalkboard, and is triggered to open up at a specific point in time.
There are a pair of semaphore flags on the desk, and there’s a chart of the semaphore alphabet on an easel to the left of the desk.
Also on the desk, there is a frame with two wires mounted in it, and a pair of wire-cutters. When the correct wire is cut, a confetti cannon in front of the desk fires.
