Mastertask notes:
In this version of the task, the task brief is not presented alongside the balls and bin, making it much more likely that the contestants will accidentally choose a ball by touching it before knowing that they’ve done so.

Task brief

The task brief is attached to part of the fence, directly next to where the contestants leave the house to make their way to the scene of the task. The brief for the task is as follows:

Bounce one of these balls the greatest number of times before it lands in this container.

After you have propelled your ball, you may not touch or strike it.

The most bounces between the propulsion and this container wins.

You must use the ball that you touch first.

You have 20 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The contestants arrive to find an oil drum on the paved surface outside the house, on top of which there is a wire mesh waste paper bin, and a variety of balls.
  • The available balls are: a rubber band ball; a small foam ball resembling a basketball; a whiffle ball; a golf ball; a tennis ball; a plastic ball pit ball; a large ping-pong ball; and a dodge ball which only just fits through the opening of the bin.
