Task brief

The task brief is propped up on the base of an articulated phone stand, on a plinth on a footpath in front of the log flume ride at the Rainbow’s End theme park. The brief for the task is as follows:

Get a former contestant to say the phrase ‘Hippo on a log with a purple wizard hat on’.

You cannot say any of the words on the blackboard.

You must let the contestant speak.

Every time you speak, you must start with the words Paul is holding on his cue cards.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • Mounted on the phone stand, there is a smartphone which has been preloaded with the phone numbers of all of the previous Taskmaster NZ contestants.
  • Next to the plinth, there is a chalkboard with the words ‘hat’, ‘wizard’, ‘log’, ‘tree’, ‘magic’, ‘wood’, ‘hippo’, ‘purple’, ‘rhino’, ‘elephant’, ‘sorcerer’ and ‘grey’ written on it.
  • After the contestants have read the task brief, a person wearing an inflatable hippo suit and a purple wizard's hat comes down the log flume in the background.
  • This task has elements similar to the ‘Order something without using certain words‘, ‘Call someone and get them to say a word of your choice‘, and ‘Have the longest telephone conversation‘ tasks, but is distinct enough from all of them to be categorised here as original.
