The Discount Wiggles catch some lemons

After the team of three meet for the first time outside the caravan, Wil observes that they look like “the worst discount Wiggles of all time” (The Wiggles are an Australian children’s music group, formed in 1991, and known for their distinctive red, yellow and blue clothing).

In the studio, Tom Gleeson seizes upon ‘The Discount Wiggles’ as their team-name, and also uses it as the inspiration for naming the other team ‘The Premium Economy Hooley Dooleys’ (The Hooley Dooleys were an Australian children's music and performance act between 1996 and 2009).

At the start of their attempt, Lloyd suggests that they should start off by throwing the lemons over a small distance to give themselves confidence but, before they can even start, a couple of lemons fall onto the ground from the wheelbarrow. Lloyd picks one of them up, but Tom Cashman takes it off him, for juicing.

Jenny throws a lemon to Lloyd from quite nearby and Lloyd successfully catches it in his bin. Lloyd then takes a step backwards and throws one back to Jenny, who also successfully catches it. Lloyd then takes another step backwards and Jenny throws the lemon back to him but he misses, and Tom quickly runs to collect the fruit from the ground.

Wil then takes over from Lloyd and attempts to throw a lemon to Jenny, but just throws it straight up into the air before catching it himself. Wil then throws the lemon again, while both Jenny and Lloyd attempt to catch it.

Lloyd and Wil are then seen throwing lemons to one other over quite a distance. With just 25 seconds left on the clock, Lloyd has time for just one more throw, and Wil suggests “a discus version”. Lloyd holds the basket, with one hand on the rim and spins around as if throwing a discus, but the lemon does not leave the bin.

In the studio, Josh and Anne protest over the fact that the team of three was able to have two people trying to catch the lemons at any time, and therefore had double the chance of catching them. However, Jenny counters that the level of ineptitude was the same.

Tom Gleeson compliments the team on their performance and asks if the show had accidently created a task that was already a Welsh national sport. Lloyd says he was “born to hoick citrus out of waste receptacles”.

The Discount Wiggles’ most successful catch was from a distance of 19.8 metres, and Tom Cashman had only collected 0.9 litres of juice, giving them a final score of 18.9. Jenny, Lloyd and Wil therefore each receive 5 points.
