Jenny’s Olympic celeriac

Jenny initially believes that the parsnip is a carrot, but Tom quickly corrects her. She chooses to use the celeriac.

Jenny’s celeriac competes in the root vegetable Olympics, against the beetroot and the sweet potato. All three root vegetables are stood on the balcony, with googly eyes and mouths, preparing to dive into a paddling pool on the ground below.

Jenny stands below the balcony as the commentator, using the parsnip as her microphone. She says that the celeriac has a name which is difficult to pronounce, thereby making it superior.

The sweet potato dives first, missing the pool and instead hitting the ground “like a loser”, according to Jenny. The beetroot dives next, and also misses the pool, leading Jenny to say that “it doesn’t belong in burgers or the Olympics”.

Celeriac makes its dive last and is seen somersaulting down before landing with a splash in the pool. Jenny pronounces celeriac the winner of the competition.

In the studio, Tom Gleeson points out that the task brief had instructed the contestants to pick just one vegetable. Jenny argues that it didn’t specify that you couldn’t use them all in your attempt, and points out that the celeriac had been the only one to do anything breath-taking. While Josh backs her up, Tom points out that celeriac may have won the gold medal, but all the other vegetables had still made it to the Olympics, which was quite impressive. After Jenny argues that all those other vegetables had failed been splattered all over the ground, Tom suggests that he would have found those events much more breath-taking than someone just winning a gold medal.

Ultimately, Tom decides to award Jenny 4 points.
