Wil is well up for a root
Upon spotting all of the root vegetables, Wil seizes upon the Antipodean slang meaning of the word ‘root’ (meaning sexual intercourse), stating “If this task is for us to root, Tom, I’m very excited about this.” He then pretends that the task brief actually reads “Make love to Tom. You have 30 seconds. Your time starts now.” Tom responds by asking Wil if that’s how long he usually takes. Wil eventually opts to use the beetroot and adds “Can’t beat a root!”.
Wil dresses up as best he can with the available supplies as a beetroot, wearing a red net skirt, a vest, and a wig. He walks over to Tom, gets down on one knee and says “Will you make me the happiest beetroot in the world and take this task from me?” before handing Tom a small red task brief . Tom reads the text within, which says:
Be mine
Every day
Every night
Tom
R U
Owed
Orgasms
Tonight??
Wil then says “I love you. Please marry me.” before presenting Tom with a heart and a ring carved out of the beetroot. Tom places the ring on his right ring finger, and then the two men both thank one another. When Wil again says “I love you.” Tom merely responds with another “Thank you”.
In the studio, Tom Gleeson says he can see why Wil has never done a sketch show before, since he’s clearly way out of his comfort zone. Wil agrees with Tom and says it’s weird to be sitting on the other side of a panel (Wil is well-known as the host of the advertising-focused panel show Gruen since 2008). Tom Gleeson says that he was wondering why Wil was even doing the show, and asks him if needs to borrow some money. Wil admits that he does need the money, but shared that Taskmaster is not the show he would come on just for the money, since all the contestants are paid the same, regardless of their profile. When Tom asks him if that’s why he had resorted to ‘root’ jokes, Wil tells him “you get what you pay for”.
Tom says he doesn’t want to see Wil do any more sketch comedy, and awards him just 1 point.
