Lloyd is a victim of his own hubris
Entering the lab, Lloyd surveys what is on the table before him and then wearily predicts exactly what the task is going to be, before he opens the envelope.
After reading the task brief, Tom Cashman tells him “You’ve got it all figured out”, just as Lloyd picks up the ‘This’ jar, and loads of the balls spill out of the hole in the bottom.
In the studio, Tom Gleeson advises Lloyd to never underestimate them.
Lloyd begins by picking up balls with the tongs. He also tries out the vacuum cleaner, using its suction to pick up one ball at a time, before holding it above the ‘That’ jar and turning the vacuum cleaner off, expecting that the ball with drop down into the jar. Unfortunately, the ball remains suctioned onto the end of the hose, and he has to nudge it off using the rim of the jar. Realising that the task will take forever to complete using this method, he then abandons the vacuum cleaner.
Stating that “like all good proctologists, I’m going to fix this bottom”, Lloyd grabs the duct tape and uses it to covers the bottom of the ‘This’ jar with tape. He then pours the balls into the ‘That’ jar, using the task envelope as a shield to prevent the balls escaping. However, some of the balls get stuck to the tape at the bottom of the ‘This’ jar.
Lloyd then collects all of the already spilled balls from the floor, using the tongs to place them into the removed vacuum cleaner dust compartment. While he’s doing this, he also undoes one of the production crew member’s shoelaces with the tongs.
As Tom blows his whistle, Lloyd complains about the hole in the jar, stating that if he’d only known it was there from the start, he could have slid something underneath immediately. It’s only at this point that the camera reveals the sign on the underside of the table, warning the contestants not to lift the jar.
In the studio, Tom Gleeson comments that Lloyd had come in pretty cocky, but was quickly brought back down to earth when the balls started falling out of the bottom of the jar. It’s revealed that Lloyd completed the task in 23 minutes and 9 seconds, and Lloyd earns 4 points.
