Arman explains hedgehog evolution
Arman’s chosen topic is ‘Pygmy hedgehog as a pet: a threat or an opportunity?’.
Arman grabs the furry decorative container from the nearby bookshelf (the same one Eero had tried to use as a moustache), and asks Kaarina how much she actually knows about hedgehogs. Kaarina waves her hand in a ‘so-so’ gesture.
In his presentation, Arman uses simple drawings to explain evolution, starting with the division of single-celled organisms, which eventually evolve into fish, which eventually crawl onto land and become the “fantastic specimen” known as the pygmy hedgehog.
Arman claims that when mankind had gained the ability to fly, the pygmy hedgehog was an invaluable asset, as it was a “living compass” with a built-in GPS. In fact, Arman is of the belief that the pygmy hedgehog – and not the dog, as the saying commonly goes – is man’s best friend.
Arman assures Kaarina that the pygmy hedgehog’s spines are not to be feared, as they are there only for defence against predators, like birds of prey. He picks up the furry container as a visual aid, and its lid promptly falls off, at which point he abandons whatever he had planned, as he had effectively just decapitated an ‘owl’.
In the studio, Jaakko sarcastically asks Arman if he could have perhaps started his presentation at a point further back in history than he had. Arman replies that he could have blown up more eggs in the microwave (which Jaakko jokingly refers to as “the so-called Big Bang”).
Jaakko finds Arman’s presentation the most convincing, and awards him first place.
