Eero the caveman

Eero chooses the coat of arms for Lappeenranta.

He makes the immediate decision to cast himself as the man in the coat of arms, and then goes to the shed in search of green items for his costume. He finds a headband meant to look like cartoon frog eyes, and briefly debates using it as the man’s green loincloth, but decides against it, as it would make his recreation look lewd.

Instead of using the grass around him for his background, Eero – remembering the presence of a castle (which he initially misremembers as mountains, which do not exist in Finland) in his coat of arms – lays out a roll of fake grass on the driveway, providing some visual contrast.

As Eero strips down to his boxer shorts to change into his costume (which he has decided will be made using green bunting flags), he questions why he does “programmes like this”, before admitting that he’s having fun.

He tells Pilvi that he doesn’t have any sort of clever plan for incorporating the “Lappeenranta” text from his card (ultimately, he just writes it in the dirt), as he’s not really familiar with Lapeenranta, outside of knowing a few people who live there. He specifically name-drops the rapper Laineen Kasperi.

He also voices his concern that, after the footage of his recreation is shown, he will not be welcomed at Lappeenranta, and that its citizens will “beat me up in the town square”. He then admits that he’s still proud of his recreation, and apologises to all of the residents of Lappeenranta.

Eero’s recreation is definitely the best of all five – he has paid attention to the smaller details of his coat of arms, replicating the caveman’s leafy loincloth with green bunting flags, and his leafy crown with the frog-eye headband. He also positions his astroturf backdrop underneath a stony area in the driveway, which allows the rocks to serve as the castle brickwork in the coat of arms. He also uses a butterfly net to replicate the caveman’s club, though technically he should be holding it upside-down to make it look more like the original picture. Finally, to recreate the caveman’s beard, Eero has placed several small pinecones beneath his chin.

Jaakko awards Eero first place.
