Niko keeps calm for a while

Unlike the other contestants, who had been provided with a roll of tape inside their present, Niko is instead given a squeeze bottle full of honey.

Of all of the contestants, Niko is the one who most adheres to the ‘original condition’ rule of the task, as he is the only one to place any of the contents (i.e. the bottle of honey) back into the box before rewrapping it. In order to be able to do this, he squeezes honey out onto most surfaces of the box and spreads it around as an adhesive before putting the bottle inside the box. He then presses the torn paper down around the sticky surfaces of the box.

To his credit, whatever paper he manages to salvage does stick to the box quite well, although ultimately his rewrapped present is only about half-covered in paper. Niko is pleasantly surprised by how well the honey works, calling his solution “totally folk”.

In the studio, Jaakko comments on Niko’s lack of any reaction to the honey and it’s only at this point that Niko realises that everyone but him had been given tape. Niko is annoyed at the revelation, but then attempts to swing it in his favour, talking up how cleverly he had used the honey as glue, and how he’d also placed it back inside the box as the gift.

Pilvi reveals that Niko had been the most well-behaved of all of the contestants (which is a surprise, as Niko was infamously kicked out of the Finnish Big Brother house in 2008 for violent behaviour, having thrown his glass of wine at someone during a drunken, heated argument; while he has certainly matured since then, he is not particularly known for being family-friendly).

Jaakko awards Niko joint first place, as well as a bonus point for completing the task using the honey.
