Josh fails to train a dog

Josh has to apply to become a dog trainer.

For his application, he attempts to demonstrate his dog training skills on a real dog, on a small stage set up in the garden, by the big banana.

Josh walks out with the dog on a leash, while dressed in a ringmaster's jacket, top hat, and bow tie, and introduces himself and the dog as “The Amazing Josh and Phoebe”.

Josh states that Phoebe will be performing a trick of jumping through a hoop, but notes that first he has to remove the leash from the dog and have her not immediately run back over to her owner. Naturally, as soon as he removes the leash, the dog does indeed run off of the stage and towards the camera, and Josh has to go and fetch her again.

After Josh has returned Phoebe to the stage, he holds the hoop up in front of her, while also trying to prevent her from leaving again. Phoebe does not initially cooperate, turning away from the proffered hoop.

Josh then holds a treat on the other side of the hoop with his right hand, and holds Phoebe on the other side with his left, while keeping the hoop upright with his mouth. Phoebe eventually manages to spot the treat, and very slowly walks towards it, passing through the hoop. She then runs off and back towards the camera again.

In the studio, Josh claims that they’d spent a long time teaching Phoebe to jump through hoops, but that she just didn’t want to do it on camera for him. He also shares that it was the task he was saddest about, because he’d hoped to win a Logie for getting a dog to jump through a hoop.

Tom Gleeson is unimpressed with Josh’s dog training skills, and awards him just 2 points.
