Jack wears the hot dog costume to his memory house

Jack enters the lab wearing the hot dog costume, looks around, and sighs at the mannequin heads. He then announces to Alex that he’s decided to wear the hot dog outfit, just in case he hadn’t noticed.

As he tried to memorise the names of the mannequin heads, Alex tries to engage him in conversation about how good his memory is, and whether he has a strategy, prompting Jack to grumpily point out that he’ll do better if Alex isn’t talking to him, and that his strategy is to try not to be distracted. Jack then claims that the names are all in his “memory house” and “memory castle”, though he is presumably searching for the phrase ‘memory palace’.

In the lab, he correctly recalls the names of Izzy, The Yank Tank, The Colonel, Blanket, Chisel, and Reggie. When he admits that he cannot remember the names of Izzy or Gordo, Alex suggests that they have “left the palace”.

In the studio, when Greg asks Jack if he was happy in his hot dog costume, he admits that he was not. He says that he didn’t think that it looked good, and criticises the costume as being “tacky” and “cheap”, before stating that he thought he’d pulled it off, regardless.

Alex reveals that the task was the very first one filmed, immediately after Jack had received the instructions about the hot dog costume. When Greg asks Jack if he’d just thought “Fuck it, let’s get this out of the way with”, Jack confirms that he’d just wanted to get it over and done with, so he didn’t have to dread doing it at some point in the future.

After entering the living room for the second part of the task, he asks Alex if he should open the envelope, but Alex has to remind him to first put back on the hot dog costume.

Having read the task brief, Jack correctly identifies The Colonel, Chisel, Reggie, Blanket, and Izzy. He initially misidentifies Gordo as “Yanky Tank”, before then identifying the real The Yank Tank. He also slightly misnames Grillsy as “Grilly”. Jack then starts trying to come up with additional names, but can only think of “Itzy Pitzy”.

In the studio, Alex checks with Greg on whether Jack should get points for saying “Grilly” instead of Grillsy, and “Yanky Tank” instead of The Yank Tank. Greg decides to let him have just one of them.

Alex confirms that Jack had remembered seven of the 10 names, which earns him 4 points, but this then gets doubled to 8 points because Jack had chosen to play his joker.
