Jack takes his envelope for a walk

Having read the task brief, Jack initially suggests that he could “say some outrageous things” and get himself cancelled. He decides against this strategy, however, and heads out to the shed instead.

Jack initially tries pushing the scrunched-up envelope around the garden with a kayak paddle, but then thinks better of it, and instead throws the envelope into a wheelbarrow, and wheels it up the driveway and out through the gate.

Leaving the Taskmaster property, Jack pushes his wheelbarrow out along Dan Mason Drive, which runs around the edge of the adjacent Duke Meadows facility, and then parallel to the River Thames. The footage of Jack’s journey is beautifully shot and scored.

After a while, he takes a seat at the bench from which some contestants had attempted to interpret their team-mates’ charades, during series 2’s ‘Play charades across a river’ task, and looks out across the Thames.

He then stands back up and continues to push the wheelbarrow along the path, eventually passing the tree used by Romesh Ranganathan for his Tree Wizard performance, during the ‘Do something that will look impressive in reverse’ task (fittingly, three inflated balloons have been strung from the tree, evidencing the fact that the Tree Wizard is apparently still active).

In the studio, commenting on the touching nature of Jack’s film, Greg suggests that it will save BAFTA some money for his “In Memorandum” film (though he means ‘In Memoriam’), prompting Jack to respond “And the sooner they play it, the better.” Greg characterises the film as “absolutely heartbreaking”, and says that it genuinely made him feel “quite emotional”.

Alex reveals that Jack had pushed his envelope 3 miles in total, on the day, and Jack claims that he would have continued, but the crew caught up with him and told him to stop. Alex says that his time had actually run out at around the 2 mile mark.

When awarding points, Greg admits that he is being led by emotion, and so he awards Jack 5 points.
