Andy becomes a mad scientist
As he starts pouring mouthwash into a TM-branded plastic cup, Andy announces “We’re gonna make magic here, Alex.”
After adding a few more ingredients to the cup, and the mixture begins to foam up, he points out that there’s a “bit of science going on”. When Alex asks whether it’s “meant to be growing”, Andy insists that “We’ll let it grow if it wants to grow.”
He then dons some safety goggles and gloves before placing another plastic cup over the top of the cup and shaking it to mix the ingredients.
Having transferred the contents of the cup to the jar, he sniffs at some dishwasher tablets to find the strongest-smelling one, before also dropping that it. At this point, Alex points out that Andy has added a number of cleaning ingredients which are designed to help get rid of stubborn smells.
As the mixture in the jar continues to froth, Andy grabs a cheese-grater and uses it to grate some of the rubber from a wellington boot into the top.
After sealing up the jar, he asks Alex if he can shake it, prompting Alex to suggest that doing so is probably not wise.
Andy is the last to reveal his smell in the studio. Before he does so, Alex shares that the jar contained a blend of mouthwash, de-icer, oven cleaner, raspberry bath pearls, stain remover, malt vinegar, cider vinegar, moisturising cream, “vague alcohol liquid”, grated wellies, hair wax, eight dishwasher tablets, flowers, a brain candle, sardines, “and a goblin fart”.
In preparation for his sniff, Andy uses his snooker chalk to chalk his upper lip. After taking a sniff, he doesn’t give much away with his reaction, but the other contestants very quickly react to the smell themselves, giving away how potent it actually is.
After taking a sniff for himself, Greg reacts with “Oh, get fucked!”, before adding “that is unpleasant”, and then “that is unholy”.
Greg ultimately awards Andy just 3 points for the power of his smell, but notes that if there were points for style, he’d have won, because it was one of the worst smells he’d ever smelt.
