Jack spots the vital clue in his own hand

When Alex tells Jack, after he’s read the task brief, that he’s always there if Jack has any questions, Jack immediately asks him “Which one is the danger wire?”.

Jack finds the ‘safe list’ of names, and correctly deduces that the brown wire is safe, and so cuts it.

He then finds the phone on the ceiling and retrieves it, listening to both of the confusing voicemail messages from Greg, and voicing his frustration at how unhelpful they are.

After Alex asks him how much time he has remaining, Jack shares that he has about a minute and a half left, prompting Alex to suggest that he isn’t acting with much urgency.

Jack then spots that the yellow segment of the colour wheel is missing, and correctly deduces that this means the yellow wire is safe, so he cuts that one.

As Jack looks at the bottle of wine, Alex again asks him how much time he has left, and Jack responds that he has 57 seconds, but points out that it wouldn’t be exciting if he didn’t take it down to the last few seconds.

With about 15 seconds remaining on the clock. Jack then spots that the word ‘danger’ is printed on the blue wire cutter handles, and so correctly deduces that the blue wire is the dangerous one. He therefore cuts the remaining wires which he announces as being green, red, and grey (we do not see him cutting the black wire). Having solved the task, he states “I hope none of the others get it”.

In the studio, Greg states that “it was just like watching a professional robot defuser in action”, and Jacks dismissively claims that it was all “pretty straightforward”.

Alex reveals that Jack was the second quickest to complete the task, with just a few seconds left to spare, so he earns 4 points.
