Your time starts now.
Task notes
- The body and head of the robot in this task are the same ones worn by Alex in the ‘Direct the robot to its charging station’ task, in the previous episode.
- However, the robot has been wired up with a series of mechanisms which are triggered by the cutting of the wires on top of its head:
- Cutting the black wire makes the robot beep.
- Cutting the green wire switches on a fan in the back of the robot.
- Cutting the red wire makes the robot’s eyes light up red.
- Cutting the brown wire releases a handful of chocolate-covered raisins from the bottom of the robot.
- Cutting the yellow wire makes the robot’s left arm start rotating.
- It is not known what the effect of cutting the grey wire might have been.
- Cutting the blue wire makes the robot ‘spew’ coloured powder from the two tubes on its head.
- There is a 10 minute digital countdown display on top of the robot’s head, which begins when the contestants press the nearby red button, as instructed by Alex.
- The contestants are provided with a set of safety goggles, to prevent the powder ‘spewed’ from the tubes in the top of the robot’s head from getting into their eyes.
- There are a variety of clues provided in the dome to help the contestants solve the task:
- A clipboard is hung from the wall of the dome, with a list of first names written on it, marked ‘the safe list’. All of the names listed relate to famous people with the last name ‘Brown’, indicating that the brown wire is safe to cut.
- There’s a bottle of ‘Chateau Taskmaster’ red wine on the small table in the dome, which is labelled with the numbers 19, 1, 6, and 5. These numbers translate to the letters ‘S’, ‘A’, ‘F’, and ‘E’, indicating that the red wire is safe to cut.
- There’s a colour wheel with 12 segments mounted on the wall of the dome, but what should be the yellow segment is instead labelled ‘safe’, indicating that it’s safe to cut the yellow wire.
- There’s a very basic mobile phone attached to the ceiling of the dome. The phone allows the contestants to listen to a couple of voicemails from Greg, in which he first instructs Alex that the dangerous colour should not sound like his name, but then contradicts that in his second message. The phone also shows the number 0000 on a picture of Greg, which turns out to be the code needed to open a safe, found underneath the table.
- The safe (which is black) contains a small rugby ball and a kiwi fruit, hinting at the All Blacks rugby team, and indicating that the black wire is safe to cut.
- There a small green sign on the ground outside the dome, with the word ‘safe’ printed on it, indicating that the green wire is safe to cut.
- It's unclear what the clue to indicate that the grey wire was safe might have been.
- A framed monochrome print is hung from the wall of the dome, depicting a man listening to a vinyl (blues?) record through headphones while eating a (blue?) steak, while two ships named ‘HMS Danger’ pass by in the water behind him, and a full moon (blue moon?) with a skull and crossbones on it hangs in the sky above. This print is presumably printed in shades of blue, even though it looks pretty grey on the screen.
- There is a flashing blue light on top of the dome, and the blue handles of the wire cutters they have been provided with have the word ‘danger’ printed on them.
- There are also yellow hazard signs on the walls of the dome, warning of the risk of explosion.
