Task briefs

The first task brief is laid on a plinth in the lab. The second task brief is found inside a ceramic cheese dish in the hallway. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Put on the special glasses.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

In the cheese dish:

Vous devez regarder à l’intérieur d’un socle.

Task notes

  • Next to the plinth, there is an old-fashioned wooden optometry chair, with a built-in pivoting table on one arm, and a smaller pivoting platform on the other arm. The chair also has a head brace and a mount for holding lenses in front on one’s eyes.
  • On the wall opposite the chair, there is an illuminated eye chart, on which the message ‘CHEESE DISH BELOW PORTRAIT’ is written, in reverse, from bottom to top.
  • On the table in the hallway, below Greg’s portrait, there is a ceramic, wedge-shaped cheese dish, inside which the contestants find the second task brief, which is written in French, and translates to “You must look inside a plinth”.
  • There’s another illuminated eyechart hung on the closet door next to the toilet, in the hallway, which reads “LDOIOCKTOINOTNOAIRLYE?T”. This is actually the message “DICTIONARY? LOOK ON TOILET”, but with the letters scrambled by alternating between the first and second parts of the message.
  • There is a French-English dictionary on the toilet for the contestants to use, but no-one actually does.
  • The ‘special glasses’ are actually hidden inside the plinth upon which the initial task brief was presented to them, in the lab. The top of the plinth is simply Velcroed on, making it easy to remove.
  • The special glasses provided to each contestant inside the plinth are unique to each of them.
