Emma hopes for a “Broaow!” moment

Emma begins by investigating the eye chart on the lab, starting by trying to read it forwards, as “Tiar tropwo lebhsi deseehc”. She then spots that the last line could be the word ‘cheesed’ backwards, but tells Alex that “I’m not able to work with that”.

Heading out of the lab, she first enters the kitchen, presumably in search of cheese. She then finds the second eye chart in the hallway, and pulls it off of the door, disconnecting its power supply.

Emma takes the second eye chart back to the lab with her, holding it up next to the first one before admitting “I was really hoping that was gonna be like a sort of Temple of Doom moment where, you know…Broaow!... or something, but it’s not done anything, there”. Alex responds that the show has a different budget than the Indiana Jones movie she was referencing.

Returning to the only useful clue she has understood so far, Emma recalls that there is a “cheese dome” in the hallway, which could be relevant, so she heads off to take a look at it. She brings the second task brief back to the lab with her, and reads it out in a perfect French accent. She then shares that she’d studied French at university, earning a 2:1 degree, and that although she understands the rest of the text, she does not know what a ‘socle’ is.

Emma fetches her phone, so she can look up the translation for the word she does not understand online. As she does so, she informs Alex that she has “consented to the cookies” of the website she is using, prompting Alex to ask her, with concern, “But you haven’t allowed ALL the cookies, have you?”. She responds that she is under a lot of stress, and so has, in fact, allowed them all, prompting Alex to respond “Oh my God”.

Emma discovers that ‘socle’ means ‘base’, but can also mean ‘pedestal’ (or ‘plinth’), so she investigates the plinth and discovers its removable top, and the ‘special glasses’ within.

Emma’s glasses have frames shaped and coloured like a pair of pineapples.

In the studio, Greg highlights the fact that Emma had made several strange noises during her attempt, and asks Alex to play them back (with Alex insisting that “I always isolate the noises”). In response to her “Broaow!” noise, Alex and Greg both admit that they knew exactly what she’d meant, and then Greg claims that he’s going to start using the noise himself.

Alex reveals that Emma had put on her special glasses after 9 minutes and 40 seconds, which earns her 3 points.
