Jack rapidly loses interest
Jack begins by observing that the task is a “game of luck”, and noting that he’s therefore “slightly lost interest already”.
Having presumably spotted the ‘5’ in the task brief, he pulls rope 5 first, dropping white flowers all over the table. He then announces that he’s just going to pull all of the ropes, since “there’s no skill in this”, and begins with rope 3, dropping the water balloon onto the table, where it bursts open, soaking his trousers.
Jack then continues by pulling rope 1 (dropping the table tennis balls), before immediately reaching for rope 2, and when Alex seems frustrated by his lack of any strategic approach to the task, asks him “What am I supposed to do? React?”.
He goes ahead and pulls rope 2 (dropping the half watermelon) before immediately moving on to pull rope 4 (dropping the cocktail umbrellas), and then rope 6 (dropping the rubber ducks).
We do not see Jack pulling ropes 7 or 8, but the socks and long rope are subsequently visible on the table. He then pulls rope 9, triggering the bellowing “Nooo!” from above, followed by rope 10 (dropping Patatas on the table).
Having pulled all of the ropes without ringing a bell, Jack gets up and looks around the garden for a bell, eventually heading into the hutch, where he knows there are musical instruments. Having found and rung one of the handbells in the hutch, he emerges and tells Alex that he needs to go and dry his trousers. When Alex suggests that the experience of being on the show is “great fun”, Jack sarcastically responds with “Isn’t it?”.
In the studio, when Greg highlights Jack’s lack of enthusiasm for the task, Jack states that it was “like day 34 of these tasks, and it was beginning to wear thin on me”. When Greg sarcastically expresses disbelief at this, Jack states that he’d been putting all of his energy into concealing his true feelings “‘cos I know it’s a fun show”.
Jack earns joint third place with Babatunde, since both men had pulled all 10 ropes before ringing a bell.
