Andy shuts Alex down

As Andy opens and eats the first fortune cookie, which instructs him to keep his mouth open for the rest of the task, he states “I don’t have to do it in order, do I?”, and suggests that he’ll complete those instructions last.

When Alex tells him that he thinks Andy has to obey the fortunes in the order that he opens them, Andy takes another very quick look at the task brief, and then insists “No, you do not”.

Andy then moves straight on to the next fortune cookie, which instructs him to phone a friend and tell them he’s in the bath. He decides to call the comedian Daniel Kitson, and then pretends that he doesn’t know who had called who, before explaining that he’s in the bath and so cannot talk.

The next fortune cookie instructs Andy to retrieve the pineapple from the kitchen. As he goes to leave the lab, he begins laughing, to complete the instructions from another cookie while he’s on his way to the kitchen.

While in the kitchen, he finds the additional fortune cookie in the adjacent cocktail glass, and returns with both items to the lab. He then opens the new cookie, and discovers that he must start over from the beginning, which prompts a response of “Oh bollocks!”.

Starting from scratch, the next fortune instructs Andy to put all of the remaining cookies into a bowl of hot sauce. He postpones completing those instructions while reading the next fortune, which tells him to put all of the cookies into a bowl of hot salty water. He then decides to complete these instructions back-to-back, so that the hot water will wash most of the hot sauce off of the cookies.

While the cookies are soaking in the hot sauce, he completes the instructions from another cookie, which tells him to shout the word ‘yes’ for 30 seconds. He decides to try to complete this with one 30-second yell, but has to take pauses to breathe.

He then pours the cookies into the hot water bowl, and pulls the fortune out of one of them, which instructs him to don the medallion from the living room.

He returns from the living room with both the medallion and the plate of extra fortune cookies, and eats one of them, which simply instructs him to clap. Having completed the task, he then finishes a glass of milk he has picked up along the way, to help counteract the hot sauce he’d still had to ingest.

In the studio, Greg complements Andy for his “Jedi mind trick” of shutting Alex down at the start of his attempt. Andy shares with Greg that “The key I’ve found with Alex is that if he's like whimpering and crying in the night, you’ve just gotta leave him ‘til the morning”. This prompts Greg to say “Let him cry. I’ve said it before. I’ve said that to his wife.”, to which Alex responds “I wish that was a joke.”

Alex reveals that Andy had completed the task in 13 minutes and 44 seconds, which earns him fourth place and 2 points.
