Jack declines to ingest hot sauce

Having read the task brief, Jack questions what it means to obey a fortune cookie.

The first fortune cookie he opens instructs him to don the medallion from the living room. He does as he is instructed, but does not investigate any of the additional fortune cookies in the room while doing so.

His second fortune cookie instructs him to laugh for 30 seconds, and his third tells him to say the word ‘yes’ for 30 seconds, so he repeats the word while eating.

Jack’s fourth fortune cookie instructs him to place the remaining cookies into a bowl of hot sauce. Realising that he still has to eat another cookie afterwards (although he states that he has to eat two more), he is not keen on the idea, so decides that he doesn’t have to complete these instructions until the end.

As he comments that the next fortune cookie tastes horrible, Alex suggests that maybe “they could do with a bit of hot sauce”. His fifth and final fortune tells him to keep his mouth open for the rest of the task. After noting that he was brought up not to eat with his mouth open, he pointedly stares at Alex while chewing the remainder of the cookie, open-mouthed.

He then dumps all of the remaining fortune cookies into the bowl of hot sauce, thus completing the earlier instructions, before asking Alex for “the bill”. Alex responds that the fortune cookies were complementary.

In the studio, Greg compliments Jack on his avoidance of the hot sauce, prompting Rosie to point out to Jack that he’s “clever when you want to be”.

Alex reveals that Jack had completed the task in 5 minutes and 33 seconds, which earns him second place and 4 points.
