Melanie gives Alex mixed messages

After reading the task brief, Melanie asks whether there’s any alcohol in the house. When Alex asks her why, she states that she’d regret doing a shot of tequila.

After thinking for a while, Melanie announces that she has an idea. When Alex asks if she wants to do it straight away, she states that she does. She then makes Alex stand in front of her, squat down slightly, and close his eyes, before planting a big kiss on his lips.

After Alex responds that “there’s real mixed messages there, Mel”, she turns to the camera and states “I regret that instantly”, but Alex immediately chimes in with “I don’t”.

In the studio, Greg notes that Alex doesn’t usually like bodily contact with other people, stating to Mel that “I know for a fact his wife’s never done that”. When Greg asks whether Melanie had genuinely regretted her action, she immediately responds “Oh, my god, of course”, prompting Alex to note “Yeah, this isn’t great for me, cos ‘to regret’ means to feel sad, repentant, or disappointed over something you’ve done”. When holds her palms out in front of her, suggesting that’s exactly how she felt, he concedes “Yeah, okay, fair enough”.

When awarding points, Greg tells Melanie that she’d needed to work harder to convince him that she regretted kissing Alex. She reacts with genuine shock, stating “I thought I’d won that”, but Greg gives her just 2 points.
