Hannah uses the “ground-piping” technique
Hannah first looks inside the fourth bucket from the left, and finds the knitted gloves within, which she describes as “bloody useless”.
After waiting for a minute to pass, she looks inside the fifth bucket from the left and finds the plastic tubing inside. She is clearly much more pleased with this option and, when Alex asks if she’s “going pipe?”, responds that “We’re ground-piping”.
Despite not knowing the correct term for the process of siphoning in the moment, Hannah does understand how it works, placing one end of the tube into the bucket while sucking on the other end. She appears to be able to easily fill the bottle using her siphon, sharing with Alex, as she waits for it to fill, that she has a PhD in Fluid Dynamics. When Alex then asks her what the process she is using is called, she suggests “pipes?”.
In the studio, Greg confirms with Hannah that “ground-piping isn’t a thing”. After confirming that Hannah had completely filled her bottle, Alex reveals that he needs to show Greg one more thing, which he thinks is “awful”, and which he says he thinks might lead to someone having “their professorship revoked”, prompting Greg to sarcastically question “which one of them could it be?”.
In the additional footage of Hannah’s attempt which is subsequently shown, she is seen touching the bottle multiple times as she struggles to keep the pipe inside of it, and to keep the bottle upright. In response to this reveal, Hannah quickly attempts to support David’s earlier argument that the bottle was always moving at the atomic scale.
Hannah is disqualified from the task for touching and moving the bottle.
